The Xotic SL Drive, born from Exotic, is attracting attention as a high-end stomp that can be used in a wide range of situations. This compact drive stomp is packed with the sound of a vintage British amp.
The tones of guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and Paul Kossoff are reproduced from this stomp. The SL Drive makes it easy to achieve the thick, aggressive saturation and wailing sustain that are characteristic of vintage British amps.
You can also change the tone character using the internal DIP switch. Choose from four different sound settings, including a high-gain and bright "Super Lead" setting or a thick and warm "Super Bass" setting.
The tone knob is also easy to use, allowing for a wide range of settings from a natural, flat response to a biting, aggressive sound with lots of mid-heavy bass.
In addition, the mini-sized case with a built-in 9V battery, just like the EP-Booster, is also attractive. It is ideal for those who have limited space on their pedal board or those who want to build a compact board.
This minimalist Xotic SL Drive will meet your needs while recreating the sound of vintage British amps. It is recommended for those who want a wide range of tones.
- Reproduces an amp-like British sound in a compact pedal
- Natural response for any amplifier
- Adjust to 4 different characters with the internal DIP switch
- Can also be boosted to 18V

Xotic SL Drive | Review and reputation
Even though it's called 1959, there are variations in the sound characteristics depending on the presence setting and the year, and I think the sound image that people imagine will be different. There's a crunch image with high and low sounds going wild, a plump drive feeling that bites into the picking from the thick low mids, a classic distortion before high gain, etc.
Sound House Than
The following review was done with 18V boost for improved response and headroom. The guitar used was a Les Paul.
<Usability>
The fact that it can output crunch from clean at drive 0 was more amp-like than I expected. The gain range is wider than crunch and has a wider territory as a distortion. I liked the practical combination of drive 0-2 with TS-type pedals, SD-1 and other OD pedals, fuzz, and treble boosters. Needless to say, it goes exceptionally well with EP-type pedals! Or you can use this SL Drive itself as a flavor booster to crush it.
<Playing Feel>
It has a moderate compression and is highly recommended for beginners. It follows your picking well, but not too aggressively.
Compared to so-called boutique Plexi pedals, it gives a very simple impression, and even when combined with other equipment, I think it scores highly on average. (I think it's nonsense to expect a pedal in this price range to reproduce the oppressive feeling caused by power tube saturation. I think it's best to think of it as an amp-like distortion pedal.)
<Personal recommended settings>
I think most people use it mainly with the JC-120, but since it is a model with strong high frequencies, the tone setting of the DIP switch is
High mid cut (↑↓↓↑)
Super Bass (↓↓↓↑)
Is recommended.
I think the default setting tends to be too harsh for use with JC.
In Super Bass mode, the sound is more low-mid oriented, so it seems like it would be suitable for clean amplifiers that have a pronounced high frequency sound.
The specific sound image of this pedal is
Led Zeppelin “The Song Remains The Same”
Free "Fire and Water"
Van Halen "Van Halen"
I personally feel that this is close.
This is an extremely high quality compact effect that extracts the distortion aspects of Plexi and has been tuned for versatile use.
Dip only 4 on!
4 is +XNUMXdB when off, so the natural setting with everything off feels the best.I also tried an 18v boost adapter, and although it produced a tube-like core, the sound was a bit harsh at 5w at home.
I'm allergic to effects, so I only use a few, but I like this one.
No, I love itBecause it is a Fender tube amp, the clean sound is also beautiful.
Amazon Than
This can produce clean, exciting Marshall-like rock distortion.
The ambidextrous!
I'm the kind of person who is happy just to be able to play Zeppelin riffs and solos, so SL Drive was right up my alley.
Sound HouseThan
The settings are Drive at 8 o'clock and Tone at 10 o'clock, giving it a slightly mellow feel even with the rear humbucker.
By placing a KFC clean booster in the front stage, I was able to instantly switch to a more energetic sound by increasing the treble.
This is definitely one of those pedals that I will keep for many years.
