Stella is a distortion pedal that produces a range of sounds from low-gain crunch to deep, rich mid-range drive sounds.
The original bipolar transistor clipping, which was also used in the monica, and the carefully selected combination of LED clipping provide excellent compression and sustain, producing a great drive sound in all positions from low gain to high gain.
The LED indicator is designed to change color depending on the remaining battery power, making it easy to use for users who want to use distortion pedals with batteries.
When it came to development, the initial sound inspiration was the ProCo Sound RAT, especially the early ones (Fringe~).
The RAT produces sounds ranging from crispy crunch to distortion with a strong presence, but the Fringe period in particular is wetter than subsequent models, and it has a different character than what you might imagine when you think of a RAT.
As we were redesigning the circuit with that sound in mind, we accidentally came up with a new sound.
It has a strong mid-range like the RAT, but is more natural and doesn't lose its "distortion" feel, and has less muddy or fuzzy low frequencies, making it a great sound.
As a result, we were able to acquire an established character that was different from the aforementioned Fringe, nor from what came afterwards with Blackface.
After that, I continued building around that sound, adding various elements that I personally consider critical, such as sufficient volume range and sufficient EQ to make it easy to find the sweet spot, to arrive at a final product that I was satisfied with.
