Sunfish Audio Tara | Review and reputation
Good reputation (positive reviews)
- "It has a wider range than the TS series, and even when you play chords it still has some grain. The LED clip really sings."
- "Adding a little bit of addC brings the distortion forward without hurting my ears. It makes mixing at home easier."
- "The build quality is better than you'd expect for the price. Even at gain 10 on the LED side, there's just the right amount of compression, making it perfect for backing tracks."
Bad reviews (negative reviews)
- "Not being able to use batteries is a shame. It's hard to test it out on its own outside the board."
- "The price is just under 4 yen. It's reasonable for a domestically handmade product, but it's hard to deny that it's a bit pricey compared to overseas pedals."
Sunfish Audio Tara | Who is it recommended for?
- Band members who can't always bring tube amps to small-scale gigs
Even when plugged directly into a Marshall or JC on the floor, the mids aren't thinned out and the sound is satisfying. - Guitarists looking for lead guitar with a fusion or AOR feel
Silicon + addC reproduces the solid mids and smooth top end reminiscent of Masuzaki. - People who want to organize the gain stages on a board with multiple pedals
The clean blend doesn't crush the low frequencies, so it works well with the fuzz in the previous stage and the delay in the later stage.
Sunfish Audio Tara is an overdrive pedal that condenses the "clear mids" and "good separation" that Takashi Masuzaki has honed in both live and studio performances into a compact body. By making full use of addC and Clipping, you can step into high gain while maintaining the transparency of chords, or produce thick leads with single coils.
Although there are hurdles such as the lack of battery compatibility and the price,"I want to be able to do both crunching and leading with one machine." This is a prime candidate for the greedy guitarist who wants to do just that. Whether you're playing live or at home, just play for five minutes and you'll be hooked on the drive.
