Tom Misch
Date of birth: 1995 year 6 month 25 day
Origin: London, England

Biography

His real name is Thomas Abraham Misch. He started playing the violin, guitar, and keyboard from an early age, and became interested in beat making at the age of 15. He has attracted attention with his self-produced works such as 2014's "Beat Tapes 1" and his collaborative track with FKJ, "Losing My Way," which recorded over 500 million views on YouTube, and has sold out his tours in Europe and the United States, earning him great popularity. He made his album debut in 2018 with "Geography." In 2020, he released the collaborative album "What Kinda Music" with Yusef Days.

Tom Misch's profile and career details

Tom Misch is humble: "Obviously, I have a sound and people can hear it." He seems a little confused that it's hard to pin down his music because he experiments with a variety of genres. "I'd say my music is energetic, soulful, funky and has more happy elements than sad ones," is the perfect description of his debut album due for release in 2018. He combines hip-hop beats, sparkly disco and jazz playing in songs that only Misch can create.

What surprises Misch is that his fanbase formed so naturally. He had no big plans when he started making beats and uploaded about three tracks a week to SoundCloud at the age of 16. “I prefer a more organic approach to how I make music and how I build my fanbase,” he believes. “I don’t want to put a big push on my music and make it as big as possible.” And yet, he has quickly become one of the UK’s most exciting emerging artists, garnering 3 million monthly listeners on Spotify and playing a sold-out tour in the UK, US and Europe in 1. He has collaborated with talented artists such as Novelist, Loyle Carner and Zak Abel, and has garnered over 110 million total plays across all platforms to date. And it all started in his bedroom.

Misch was exposed to the world of music from an artistic family. His father was an avid violinist and took him to concerts and operas as a child. He sang in the school choir and started playing the violin himself at age four. When one of his older sisters started playing the guitar but later quit, nine-year-old Misch took over and taught himself to play songs by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana. He now also plays bass, banjo and keyboards.

His first exposure to music came when his sister's boyfriend introduced him to J Dilla's music at the age of 15, and he was hooked ever since. He studied music technology at school the following year and began making his own "very laid back, boom bap-esque '90s hip hop" in Logic Pro. "When I wasn't at school, I was making beats. That's what I did." He started sharing his songs on SoundCloud, and the response was overwhelming. "There's something addictive about putting songs out there and building a fanbase."

His collaboration with his sister Laura on the track "Follow" was a turning point for the siblings. On the track, Laura on sax and Tom on beats and vocals intertwine to mesmerizing effect. "That was the moment I thought maybe I could do this as a career. All of a sudden I had 10 plays," Misch recalls. Soon after, Soulection co-founder Joe Kay commented on Misch's production on SoundCloud and invited the teenage prodigy to be a guest on his radio show.

Soon after, in 2014, Misch contributed to Soulection's White Label series, weaving together minor jazz samples, guitars and vocals to create the perfect summer listen (including the dreamy hit "The Journey"). His Beat Tape series brought together the best of his hip-hop instrumentals, and his 5 Day Mischon project featured collaborations with grime MC Novelist and singer-songwriter Zak Abel. And in 2016, his Reverie EP officially released Misch's most polished compositions. In addition to collaborating with soulful singers Carmody and Jordan Rakei, he also worked with South Londoner Loyle Carner, whose gentle raps lend themselves comfortably to Misch's productions. They both form part of a growing scene of singer-songwriters from South East London that includes King Krule and Cosmo Pyke. They share a DIY ethos and connect over their poetic approach to lyrics. "There's definitely a certain sound," Misch reflects. "The music that everyone in South London sings is very relaxed. It reflects the vibe of the area. It's relaxed."

Mish has lived in South London all his life and he loves it; his new song, "South of the River", is his tribute to it. "I love the general vibe of South London. I love Peckham, Dulwich, Forest Hill, this area. It just felt right to sing the line, 'You should come to the south side.'" String arrangements respond to disco synthesizers and funky basslines, clearly pointing to Mish's danceable new direction.

Jazz has long been Misch's biggest musical influence. With a degree in jazz guitar, Misch is an avid listener of Robert Glasper, Roy Hargrove and Cory Henry, as well as jazz-influenced songwriters like D'Angelo and Erykah Badu. "When I hear certain chord progressions, I get a little warm feeling," he explains.

In creating his debut album, he also draws inspiration from disco, house and techno.

Paul Reed Smith(PRS) / Silver Sky

Product Overview

The PRS Silver Sky is equipped with PRS's original single-coil pickups, designed to inherit the sound of the vintage guitars manufactured between 1963 and 64, which are the vintage guitars that John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith love dearly, and was created from a design concept that sets it apart from the image of the past.

The result of two years of research and development, the Silver Sky has the distinct sound that John and Paul were aiming for, and it features an abundance of PRS original parts designed and developed specifically to produce the guitar's sound and playability.

The headstock shape is a PRS trademark, but it has been redesigned with a reverse headstock to suit John Mayer's playing style, and the distance from the nut to the tuners has been increased to further improve tuning stability.

The tuners are traditional vintage-style Kluson type, but the original PRS pegs feature the PRS locking system. The original steel tremolo is attached to the body with the arm in a neutral position. This setting allows the bridge to move only in pitch down directions, but by increasing the contact area between the bridge and the body, it improves the natural resonance of the body, resulting in a dynamic sound and an improved signal-to-noise ratio for the single-coil pickups.

The 635JM pickups are PRS original pickups developed exclusively for the Silver Sky, and are characterized by a wide range and a fat, crispy sound.

The Silver Sky is available with a choice of rosewood or maple fingerboard, both with a 7.25" fingerboard radius. The rosewood fingerboard neck has a slightly more rounded shoulder, making it more comfortable for the palm of the hand. The shape of the neck for both fingerboards was derived from careful research of vintage guitars and numerous tests on stage by John Mayer himself.

The completely original design molded jack plate, which allows for smooth insertion and removal of the plug, is an idea that could only be dreamed up because the unit is designed for use in live performances.

Created by John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith, we hope that the Silver Sky will become a new option for guitarists around the world, regardless of musical genre, including rock, blues, jazz, and funk.

Fredric Effects / Zombie Klone

Product Overview

The Fredric Effects Zombie Klone is a pedal based on a famous high-end overdrive pedal that is popular all over the world.
There are many pedals called Klone, but the Zombie Klone is particularly high quality and compact.
Electrically it is a 100% exact clone, featuring the same charge pump circuitry as the original model and the exact same buffer as the original.

Zombie Klone artwork is custom by Stacey Hine and professionally screen printed onto a power coated enclosure.

The power source is a DC9V center negative adapter (One Control EPA-2000 is recommended) or a 9V battery.

*Just like the original model, some parts of the Zombie Klone have low voltage resistance, and operating it with voltages above DC9.8V may lead to malfunction.
When using an adapter, please use a regulated DC9V adapter. Failures caused by incorrect adapters are not covered by the warranty. Thank you for your understanding.

[Fredric Effects]
Fredric Effects produces handmade effects pedals in North London, UK.
The creators, Tim and Stacey, are guitarists and particularly love compact, easy-to-use effects pedals.
For example, it's easy to make a synth fuzz with a crazy tone with six knobs. But Fredric Effects wants to make a fuzz with a crazy tone as compact as possible, with only two or three knobs, and the rest with controls like toggle switches. With beautiful artwork.
At Fredric Effects, we create our effects pedals not just to be beautiful and sound great, but also to last for many years.

Tim and Stacey of Fredric Effects also perform in London as twin guitarists/vocals for the band Sailplanes.

Analog Alien / Rumble Seat

Product Overview

It has a pop look with alien characters drawn on it and is housed in a specially made cooler bag, so it's playful yet pursues authentic sound with attention to detail!
An unusual effect pedal that combines overdrive, delay, and reverb in one unit, inspired by the rockabilly sound!
Of course, it can be used in a variety of genres, not just rockabilly.
The three built-in effects can be turned on or off individually or in combination.
Designed with the Plexi sound in mind, Rumble Drive (overdrive) provides smooth distortion without losing dynamics even when the gain is increased.
The Gain control is at maximum gain at the 2 o'clock position, and from there onwards the compression increases, allowing you to achieve rich harmonics.
It can also be used as a clean booster by turning down the Gain control.
The Delay, which is placed next to the overdrive, features a very smooth and natural sound and can be adjusted from 25ms to 650ms.
You can make it oscillate by turning the Repeats control almost to its maximum.
Located at the final stage is a simple reverb with one control.
Created in comparison with four vintage blackfaces, this reverb produces a pleasing sound in any position.

Moog / Moogerfooger Low-Pass Filter

Product Overview

The award-winning MF-101 is an effect designed by Bob Moog. It features the legendary Moog filter and an envelope follower for direct control of the filter sweep. Use the MF-101 with your bass, guitar, keys, sampled or recorded tracks to create the classic Moog filter effect - without any digital influences.

The MF 101 Low Pass Filter is a direct descendant of the Moog Modular Synthesizer. It combines two complete modular functions: a voltage controlled low pass filter and an envelope filter. It can handle any instrument level or line level signal.

The Moogerfooger's filter control parameters are signal mix amount, cutoff frequency, resonance amount and envelope amount. All low pass filter parameters can be controlled by knobs that feel great to tweak, expression pedal or external CV. Panel switches select filter mode and envelope follower speed. Standard jacks are provided for audio in/out, pedal input and envelope follower output. A sturdy yet smooth acting bypass switch can be used on either a table top or foot operated system.

A low pass filter reduces the high frequency content of a sound, making the tone mellower or more muted. A lower cutoff setting results in a more muted tone. Think of window blinds: as you turn them down, they block out the light at the very top, then the light in the middle, and eventually all the light is blocked. The MF-101 low pass filter does the same kind of thing in the audio domain.

As you turn up the Resonance control, harmonics closer to the cutoff frequency are boosted. Resonance gives the Moogerfooger filter the classic Moog filter sound found on the Minimoog and Moog modular synthesizers.

The envelope follower follows the loudness waveform and emits a voltage that follows the dynamics of your playing. Every time you play, the envelope voltage goes up and down. The harder you play, the higher the envelope voltage is emitted. The envelope follower opens and closes the low pass filter. It's helpful to think of the envelope voltage as an invisible hand that turns the cutoff knob up and down as you play notes. Because the envelope follows the dynamics of your instrument signal, you are manipulating the filter just as you play your instrument.
