[Carefully Selected] 18 Recommended Marshall Plexi Effects Pedals! [Sound Comparison]

Marshall is now an indispensable brand when it comes to distortion.
Even modern high-end amps such as Bogner and Friedman have the Marshall sound at their base.
This time, we will introduce a carefully selected list of compact distortion pedals that are known as "Marshall-type" and "Plexi-type"!
We've compiled a list of only the most highly rated models, along with the lineage and features of Marshall amps!
What are Marshall and Plexi effects?

As the name suggests, this is an effect pedal based on the "Marshall sound" and "Plexi sound."
That said, the "Marshall sound" itself has different characteristics depending on the era and model.
And as for the often-heard term "Plexi," let's take a look back at what Marshall it refers to and its lineage to date.
Marshall Amplifier Types and History
JTM-45

It was the brand's first model based on the Fender Bassman."JTM45"
In order to differentiate from Fender,It was at this time that the style of separating the amp and cabinet was established, and a distinctive distorted sound was born.
This is a legendary amp that was also used by Ritchie Blackmore and Eric Clapton.
1959~ Plexi

Developed in response to the need for a louder 45W model after the introduction of the JTM100."1959 SUPER LEAD 100"
This is what is now known as "vintage Marshall."
The early models manufactured in the 60s with acrylic panels for the controls are particularly highly regarded and are commonly known as "Plexi Marshalls."
1962 Bluesbreaker

To meet Eric Clapton's need to transport his amps in his car, we developed a 2x12 combo amp.
Based on JTM45,It became famous when Eric Clapton himself used it with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, and it came to be nicknamed the "Bluesbreaker."
It has a very creamy blues sound.
CWY

The JCM series emerged as a standard amp in rock music that continues to this day.
This model captured the popular hard rock trend of the time and is said to be the best-selling model of all time.
After the JCM800 was the first in the series, the sound gradually evolved to a high-gain hard rock sound, with the JCM900 and JCM2000 being introduced.
JVM

The JVM series was developed as a modern flagship model based on the famous 800 Plexi JCM1959.
Its wide range allows for a wider variety of sounds and tone creation, and its thick, robust sound continues to fascinate many guitarists today.

Bogner / Ecstasy Blue (Mini)

Product details
Bogner Ecstacy amps, which were born in 1992, are still hand-built one by one in Los Angeles, California. The Ecstacy Blue pedal perfectly recreates the legendary Ecstacy Blue channel – the traditional classic rock n’ roll crunch. Every guitar player knows that the Blue channel of the Ecstacy amp has the ultimate Plexi tone, but depending on the settings, the Blue can also sound harder. When designing the Ecstacy Blue pedal, Bogner amp designer Reinhold did not use op amps or diode clipping, but instead used four discrete class-A gain stages to perfectly recreate the Ecstacy Blue channel. This innovative approach created a sound that was clear, touch-sensitive, and had great separation that was not possible with previous overdrive pedals. The Ecstacy Blue runs on a 1V battery or a 4V DC power supply, but the voltage is significantly boosted internally thanks to Reinhold’s advanced circuit design. This higher voltage gives the sound an incredible dynamic range, reminiscent of the legendary Ecstacy amplifier tube design.

Bogner / La Grange

Product details
La Grange is designed to recreate the tone of famous British Plexi amps played by legendary guitarists.
Using the provided switches and controls, it offers a wide range of exquisite rock sounds, from the crunch of the 60s and 70s to the hot distortion of the 80s and 90s.
Unlike the Ecstasy and Uberschall pedals, the La Grange has a separate boost that can also be used as a volume boost for leads.
The Ch Blend control recreates the two channels of a 67-69 4-input Plexi amp. Fully counterclockwise is 2% bright channel “T”. Fully clockwise is 100% normal channel “B”. The center position is a 100/2 mix of the two channels.
You can change the gain level by connecting a volume pedal to the Exp jack.
JHS Pedals / Angrie Charlie V3

Product details
The JHS Pedals Angry Charlie V3 is the third generation of the Angry Charlie pedal, which has been hugely popular for many years.
The Angry Charlie is a distortion pedal that produces a high-gain sound reminiscent of a Marshall stack.
Compared to the JTM45 sound of Charlie Brown, it can produce a high-gain sound with a more solid feel.
Based on the vintage Guv'nor and with significant improvements, this monster pedal is the pedal any player wanting the high gain sound of a JCM800 has been waiting for.
The V3 Angry Charlie has expanded its versatility without changing its sound, from classic distortion to high-gain distortion.
The Angry Charlie V3 has five control knobs: Volume, Drive, Bass, Middle, and Treble, giving it an amp-like feel.
The Volume knob works like a standard master volume on an amplifier: turn it to the right for louder, turn it to the left for quieter, and the Drive control offers an incredibly wide range of gain settings, from overdrive to heavy, full-on grind sounds.
And the all-new V3 3-band EQ section is the same tone stack as the one found in real amps, allowing you to create realistic Marshall amp tones.
The Bass, Middle, and Treble controls are all flat at the 12 o'clock position and are active equalizers that allow you to cut/boost certain bands.
If you're a player who loves the sound of British high gain amps, the Angry Charlie V3 could be a life changer.
That great classic distortion sound is present in this pedal.
High gain sound, and real high gain sound at that, is now here.

FREE THE TONE / FM-1V FIRE MIST

Product details
Overwhelming dynamic range, sparkling overtones, long sustain, a fat tone with a fast sound, and most importantly, a clean drive sound. In order to realize all of these, we thoroughly examined all elements related to the sound, such as the electric circuit and electric parts, as well as the material, mass, and magnetic field of the case and knob, and after repeated prototyping over several years, we completed the "STRING SLINGER" and "FIRE MIST". When we think of the ideal drive sound, two things come to mind: the American blues sound symbolized by the Black Face era, and the British rock sound represented by golden plexi panels.
"FIRE MIST" reproduces the ideal British rock sound. Its outstanding response and edgy sound create the classic British rock sound.
The moment you play "FIRE MIST" you will experience the true meaning of the word "amp like."
【FEATURES】
●NEW HTS (Holistic Tonal Solution) Circuit: The Integrated Series is equipped with a newly designed HTS (Holistic Tonal Solution) circuit. Unlike conventional buffer circuits, it performs impedance conversion while bringing out the sound characteristics of the guitar and amplifier to the utmost, achieving both "sound" and "low noise".
●FREE THE TONE Custom Knob: We developed a custom FREE THE TONE knob made of machined brass to suppress vibrations in the shaft and wiper of the semi-fixed resistors used in each control, and to suppress harmonic components that adversely affect the sound. We repeated sound tests to determine the diameter and weight of the knob in order to obtain the ideal sound. It produces a clean overdrive that is "distorted but not muddy" with little turbidity.
●Sound Casing Design: The length, width, height, and thickness of the case all affect the sound of the overdrive. In the "Integrated Series", all dimensions are calculated to determine the case size that is best suited to the ideal sound. The weight is also designed to be appropriate with an emphasis on sound.
●IC Tone Plate: This FREE THE TONE original metal plate covers the top of the IC, providing vibration isolation and shielding at the same time. It maximizes the characteristics of the IC while providing shielding to minimize the introduction of noise.
●Passive tone circuit: The tone circuit uses a passive circuit that minimizes phase shift of the guitar signal.
Input impedance: 1MΩ or more
Output load impedance: 10kΩ or more
